included in our one-of-a-kind proprietary blend.

Lemon Balm

A study conducted in 2014 researched the anti-stress effects of lemon balm; those participants who were given lemon balm reported significant improvements in mood and cognitive performance and if you are anything like me... any boost in cognitive performance is welcomes when you are battling it out with pregnancy brain.

In addition to helping with stress, lemon balm can also be used to help with pain and bloating, as well as other uh, *digestive issues*. While not one of the most talked about symptoms, weird stomach stuff does happen postpartum and lemon balm can help.

Saint John's Wart

This is a relatively well-known herb that has been used for centuries as a successful treatment for depression. In fact, St. John’s Wort is currently one of the most commonly used treatments for depression in Germany!

A 2008 study done on St. John’s Wort conclusively showed that the herb is at least as effective as most regularly prescribed antidepressants in the United States if not more effective. The study was able to determine that St. John’s Wort can successfully treat mild and moderate depression symptoms with fewer side effects than those experienced when taking antidepressant medication.

One thing everyone said when I had my son was "Make sure you sleep when he sleeps" um yeah.... about that...
I found that to be easier said than done which only increased my anxiety and depression symptoms.

Chamomile contains apigenin, an antioxidant that binds to certain receptors in your brain that can promote sleepiness and reduce insomnia, or the chronic inability to sleep.

In one study, postpartum women who drank chamomile tea for two weeks reported better sleep quality compared to a group that did not drink chamomile tea. They also had fewer symptoms of depression, which is often linked with sleeping problems so naturally we had to include this awesome herb in MYMOOD® Vitamins.

Ashwagandha is an ancient medicinal herb.

It’s classified as an adaptogen, meaning that it can help your body manage stress.

Ashwagandha also provides numerous other benefits for your body and brain.

For example, it can boost brain function, lower blood sugar and cortisol levels, (Which contribute to hanging on to that extra baby weight longer) and help fight symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Magnesium is an important mineral, playing a role in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body. Its many functions include helping with muscle and nerve function, regulating blood pressure, and supporting the immune system. It also modulates activity of the body's stress-response system, and studies suggest increasing magnesium intake may reduce anxiety, ease stress and even minimize the response to fear.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 helps the body process amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins and some hormones. It is needed to make serotonin, melatonin, and dopamine which are all critical in being able to actually rest and feel good.

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that your body naturally produces and then uses as an ingredient to produce serotonin, the natural "feel good" chemical that can also be converted into the hormone melatonin that helps you sleep.

Low serotonin levels are associated with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, weight gain and other health problems so ensuring your body has all the right ingredients to make serotonin is an important reason we include
5-HTP in our vitamins.

Rhodiola Root

Rhodiola is an herb that grows in the cold, mountainous regions of Europe and Asia.

Its roots are considered adaptogens, meaning they help your body adapt to stress when consumed.

Its root contains more than 140 active ingredients, the two most potent of which are rosavin and salidroside.

People in Russia and Scandinavian countries have used Rhodiola to treat anxiety, fatigue and depression for centuries.

Skull Cap

5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that your body naturally produces and then uses as an ingredient to produce serotonin, the natural "feel good" chemical that can also be converted into the hormone melatonin that helps you sleep.

Low serotonin levels are associated with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, weight gain and other health problems so ensuring your body has all the right ingredients to make serotonin is an important reason we include
5-HTP in our vitamins.

Hawthorn Berry

For centuries, hawthorn berry has been used as an herbal remedy for digestive problems, heart failure, and high blood pressure. In fact, it’s a key part of traditional Chinese medicine.

It is in MyMood Vitamins specifically for its anti-anxiety qualities however it is also know to reduce hair loss which is really common from moms postpartum.

One study found that mountain hawthorn extract stimulated hair growth and increased the number and size of hair follicles, promoting healthier hair!

L-theanine is an amino acid found primarily in green and black tea and some mushrooms.

In a review of five randomized controlled trials that included 104 participants, four trials linked L-theanine with reduced stress and anxiety.

The research also suggests that it not only relaxes the mind, but it does so without causing drowsiness, which as a new mom, is really important.

It's also know to help improve focus which will help with the aftermath of pregnancy brain and fatigue. Not to mention it can boost your immune system, which let's be honest... who wouldn't benefit from that right now?

Oat Straw

Oat straw comes from the unripened Avena sativa plant, which is commonly grown in Northern Europe and North America.

It’s known to offer numerous health benefits, such as reduced inflammation and improved brain function and mood.

Hops are the female flowers from the hop plant, Humulus lupulus. They’re most commonly found in beer, where they help produce its bitter flavor. Hops also have a long history of use in herbal medicine, dating back to at least the 9th century in Europe. They have traditionally been used to treat a variety of ailments, ranging from indigestion to leprosy.

While hops are able to relieve anxiety and sleep disorders on its own, research actually suggests that it might be even more effective when combined with valerian root which is why you'll notice both of them on our ingredients list.

Mucuna Pruriens

Mucuna pruriens is a type of tropical bean native to parts of Africa, India and Southern China. The most significant compound found in Mucuna pruriens is an amino acid called levodopa (L-dopa). L-dopa is needed for your brain to produce dopamine, the "feel good" hormone.
Research has shown that Mucuna pruriens helps significantly boost our dopamine levels.

In fact, studies have indicated that Mucuna pruriens supplements may be just as or even more effective than certain medications designed to do the same thing.

Valerian Root

Valerian root is often referred to as “nature’s Valium.” In fact, this herb has been used since ancient times to promote tranquility and improve sleep.

Valerian root contains a number of compounds known to promote sleep and reduce anxiety such as valerenic acid, isovaleric acid and a variety of antioxidants.

Valerian has also received attention for its interaction with gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a chemical messenger that helps regulate nerve impulses in your brain and nervous system. Low GABA levels are linked to anxiety and low-quality sleep.

Valerenic acid has been found to stop the breakdown of GABA in the brain, resulting in feelings of calmness and tranquility.

This is the same way anti-anxiety medications like Valium and Xanax work. The difference is antidepressants use chemicals like diazepam to do this while Valerian Root is a natural herb.

The houpo magnolia tree is native to China, where it has been used for thousands of years as a supplement in traditional Chinese medicine.

Research show that magnolia bark extract appears to have protective effects against many neurological conditions.

This not only includes brain disorders like Alzheimer’s disease but also conditions like stress, anxiety, mood disorders, and depression.

A study in 40 women ages 20–50 found that taking 250 mg of magnolia and phellodendron bark extract 3 times a day resulted in greater relief of short-term and temporary anxiety than taking a placebo.

A second study of the same magnolia and phellodendron bark extract in 56 adults observed that consuming 500 mg of the extract per day resulted in significantly lower cortisol levels and improved mood.

Cortisol is the primary stress hormone in our bodies so if cortisol levels decrease, it suggests that overall stress has also decreased.

Passion Flower

Passion Flower is another ingredient used for centuries in Europe to treat restlessness, agitation, and irritability.

Several studies have been done, including a double-blind randomized trial compared the efficacy of Passion Flower extract with the popular medication Oxazepam in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder.

The result? Both Passion Flower extract and Oxazepam were effective in the treatment of generalized anxiety disorders however, the individuals treated with the Passion Flower extract reported significantly less sideffects than those who used the Oxazepam.

Bacopa, otherwise known as the herb of grace, is a staple plant in traditional Ayurvedic medicine.

One study showed that Bacopa monnieri had anti-anxiety effects comparable to those of lorazepam (benzodiazepine), a prescription medication used to treat anxiety.

In addition to its ability to reduce anxiety and depression symptoms though, Bacopa is also know to help improve mental clarity and boost brain function.

Gamma aminobutyric acid or GABA is a naturally occurring amino acid that works as a neurotransmitter in your brain.

Neurotransmitters function as chemical messengers. GABA is considered an inhibitory neurotransmitter because it blocks, or inhibits, certain brain signals and decreases activity in your nervous system.

When GABA attaches to a protein in your brain known as a GABA receptor, it produces a calming effect. This can help with feelings of anxiety, stress, and fear.

As a result of these properties, GABA has also become a popular supplement in recent years.

This is partly because it isn’t available from many food sources. The only foods that contain GABA are fermented ones, such as kimchi, miso, and tempeh.

Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin that's a part of the vitamin B family. It's also known as vitamin H. Your body needs biotin to help convert certain nutrients into energy. It also plays an important role in the health of your hair, skin, and nails. And since most of us loss a ton of hair and have significant changes in our skin postpartum it only made sense to include this in our one of a kind postnatal supplement.
Other Ingredients In Our Proprietary Blend Include: Calcium, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B3Vitamin B5, Zinc, and Potassium as each supports your body's natural functions and plays a role in getting the most out of each individual herb we've included.
